Nia is "movement medicine" for my body and soul - my heart dance and passion.

Nia has turned "working out" into "inner work" that changed many parts of my life.

Nia has given me more confidence in life and allowed me to see my potential.

Nia has connected me to myself, shifted, transformed and allowed me to be more in my own power. I lost many of my inhibitions over time and can now surrender myself to the expression and the spirit of movement and music. Music has become my friend. The fact that, rhythm in music heals the physical body, the melody heals the mental and emotional parts and harmony heals the spiritual aspect of self, has been very true for me. Music cocoons me from worldly concerns, but also enables my hidden, real self to emerge and my soul to shine through. This is the healing power of Nia ~ movement, sound & vibration.

It has been a journey of exploration & self-discovery and of course there is always more to unearth!

"Most of us hunger to connect to this space within us, to break through to bliss and be swept away into something bigger than us. Each of us is a moving centre, a space of divine mystery. Dance is the fastest, most direct route to the truth of that wilderness. We dance to fall in love with the spirit of all things" ~ Gabriella Roth.

I first came across Nia on the TV program "Free Spirit", felt deeply moved just watching it and knew intuitively from that footage, that I wanted to learn this technique. I did not ignore the message and longings of my soul and off I went to Cape Town to do the Nia White Belt Intensive with Kathy Wolstenholme (founder of Nia SA) in 2004. Nia has been my movement therapy since then. Movement is Life.

Before that, I had been going to the gym for years, as I work in the natural health arena and obviously being fit was part of  feeling healthy and vital. At that time, I had come to a "tipping point" where I willed & took myself to the gym, rather than loving & really wanting to be there. As Debbie and Carlos Rosas (founders of Nia USA) say:  - To feel good enough to last a life-time, an exercise regimen, must also satisfy our heart and soul - . Nia does exactly that. I know I want to move like this for the rest of my days exploring the fluidity of being alive. "Conscious movement is life giving" ~ Moshe Feldenkrais.

In February 2009 I experienced the Blue Belt Intensive training with Anne Christiansen, an international Nia trainer, from Germany. Blue Belt took me deeper into ways to communicate, express and relate with people in a Nia class. I learned how to use my body, voice, language, sound, facial expression, my mind and spirit i.e. paying attention to detail, that would lead to the desired outcome I consciously want to create, through thought, intention and action.

My learning continues ~ to enhance the art of teaching and growing in my relationship with Nia and the people who love it too.

"Awakening" (and Nia is a journey to awakening!)  brings it's own assignments, unique to each of us. What ever you think about yourself and however long you may have thought it, you are not " just you". You are a SEED ..A beautiful silent promise. Get ready to "flower and shine" with Nia!
